blast-furnace slag

The nonmetallic product, consisting essentially of silicates and aluminosilicates of calcium and other bases, which is developed in a molten condition simultaneously with iron in a blast furnace. The solidified product is further classified by the process by which it was brought from the molten state; also see air-cooled blast-furnace slag, expanded blast-furnace slag, granulated blastfurnace slag.
